KUCHING, Jan 13: The leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in bringing about change for Sarawak’s development is worthy of emulation, says Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In a TVS news report, Abdul Karim said that Abang Johari showed firmness, wisdom, and efficiency in managing and administering the State, especially when facing various global challenges, including major crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

“After he (Sarawak Premier) was appointed to the position, the world was hit by a pandemic that had never been seen before, starting in 2019. In Malaysia, it started on March 18, 2020. It was not an easy thing, especially for a newly appointed chief minister.

“This very challenging situation required efficient leadership. At that time, the serving chief minister managed to organise the State well.

“During that period, many sectors came to a halt. In fact, some lost their jobs, some needed assistance, and movement was limited. However, under the leadership of (Sarawak Premier), he managed to manage the situation well,” he said at a press conference after opening the LEGACY360 Preview today.

Abdul Karim added that in the past eight years, various changes and initiatives have been introduced by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under the leadership of Abang Johari.

“I have never witnessed such huge support at the grassroots level. As someone who has been involved in politics for a long time, I can say that this is extraordinary. Sarawakians, whether in urban or rural areas, are increasingly strongly supporting the GPS government and Abang Johari.

“All the efforts brought by Abang Johari for the benefit of Sarawak are greatly appreciated. I hope that the GPS government will continue to progress and make a positive impact on the State,” he added.
