KUCHING, Jan 31: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg calls on civil servants to ensure all development projects which have been launched are completed on time or without further delay.

He said it is not impossible to achieve this goal if civil servants are all focused on achieving what they have set out to do.

“Now that the pandemic has eased off, there is very little reason for the completion of projects to be delayed for the benefit of the rakyat (people) and to transform our infrastructure,” he said in his 2022 Chinese New Year (CNY) message today.

Abang Johari also pointed out that development needs proper planning and the political will to drive its implementation.

He cited the Batu Kawah area in Kuching as a case-in-point which has seen considerable development in the past few years because there has been a genuine desire to turn the area into yet another thriving part of Kuching City.

“In the same vein, and with the same genuine spirit towards progress, I sincerely hope that we can also turn the Bukit Assek area in Sibu into a new and vibrant part of downtown Sibu in the not-too-distant future.

“The Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) has been entrusted to spearhead the task to completely transform this 497-acre low-lying, water-logged part of Sibu into a modern cityscape that is designed to attract investment and uplift the economy of Sibu to the next level,” he added.

Abang Johari also gave assurance that his administration will do its level best to fulfil what it has promised to the people in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) manifesto and stay on track to become a developed State by 2030.

He acknowledged that it was a tall order, but he was confident that with the solid support of the rakyat, and the efficacy of the State Civil Service, Sarawak can become a digital economic power, boast of excellent infrastructure and utilities and enable its people to enjoy high income. – DayakDaily
