KUCHING, Feb 11: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been re-elected unopposed as the president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), securing another three-year term.
According to PBB Election Committee chairman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, all 82 party branches across Sarawak unanimously endorsed Abang Johari’s leadership, leading to his uncontested retention as president.
The party’s top leadership remains largely unchanged, with deputy presidents Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan retained without contest.
Similarly, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom will continue serving as senior vice presidents.
However, the vice president (VP) posts for the Bumiputera wing will be contested, following the entry of two new challengers.
The current VP holders—Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee—will face competition from Datuk Len Talif Salleh and Dato Ibrahim Baki.
Meanwhile, for the Pesaka wing, the VP positions held by Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Datuk Gerawat Gala, and Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu remain uncontested.
“For the Supreme Working Council members, we are looking at 19 candidates vying for 14 seats allocated to the Pesaka wing, while 20 candidates will compete for 16 seats in the Bumiputera wing,” Awang Bemee said at a press conference after the drawing of ballot numbers at PBB headquarters today.
Additionally, he confirmed that there will be no contest for the party’s youth and women’s wings.
The PBB 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) or PBB Convention will take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from Feb 14 to 16. — DayakDaily
