KUCHING, Nov 26: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received a Special Centennial Award in conjunction with the Sarawak Agriculture Department’s 100th Anniversary Celebration.
The award is in appreciation and recognition of Abang Johari, who is not only the ‘Father of Digitalization’ for Sarawak but has also actively introduced modern technology, a green economy, and a circular economy.
These initiatives have opened a new chapter in the State’s agricultural sector, making it more productive, ambitious, and competitive.
Abang Johari was commended for always providing full and solid support, not only for Sarawak Agriculture Department but for all those below the hierarchy.
The special award was presented by the Sarawak Director of Agriculture Dominic Chunggat and witnessed by the Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and others at a hotel last night.
Earlier, Abang Johari presented the ‘Anugerah Jasa Bakti’ (Service Appreciation Award) to ten former Sarawak Agriculture Department directors who had served between 1974 to 2022.
They were Dr Alvin Chai Lian Kuet (2018–2022); Datu Lai Kui Fong (2011–2018); Paul Vincent Ritom (2006–2011); Datu Mohd Sapuan Anu (1999–2006); the late William Chang Wei Say (1997–1999); Edwin Liew Chung Hiun (1996–1997); Juliahi Ismail (1993–1996); Datu Henry Bakit Jantum (1992–1993), Andrew Tan Chiok Chiew (1990–1992); and Datuk Joseph Kong Teck Chong (1974–1990).
Among those present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
