KUCHING, Dec 14: Lingga’s elevation into a full district in Sri Aman will improve the people’s way of life and enable the government to provide better delivery of services.
This was said by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the ceremony to launch Lingga as a full district at Dataran Terubok Lingga today.
“Why was Lingga upgraded? It’s because of our development policies in rural areas.
“If we have more effective machinery, then the people can contact government agencies, which will strengthen the relationship between the government and the people and make it easier for us to implement projects that the people want,” he said during the event which was livestreamed by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Abang Johari, who is the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N26 Gedong, said that this also means that the people of Lingga won’t have to travel to Simanggang town to get services provided by government agencies.
“Everything will be in Lingga, and to provide these services, we will establish a District Office complex here in Lingga,” he said.
The chief minister said the establishment of the complex will not only provide a better administrative structure, but more shops would be set up, more roads would be built, and residential areas would be developed under the Land and Survey Department.
“Only Sarawakians know what Sarawakians want, and GPS knows this. We should prioritise the people, and we don’t want Lingga to be left behind,” he said.
Also present during the event were State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Deputy State Secretary (Socio-Economic Transformation) Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sri Aman Resident Datu Indit Bangai, and Sri Aman District Officer Asree Wee. — DayakDaily
