KUCHING, Oct 15: Petra Jaya incumbent Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof may be renominated by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to defend his seat in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
This was hinted at by Sarawak Premier and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a dinner with Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) of Sarawak and Sarawak government leaders in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2022 programme held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur earlier tonight.
“Dato Sri Fadillah, InsyaAllah, akan menang kalau dicalonkan (Dato Sri Fadillah, God willing, will win if fielded),” Abang Johari hinted during his speech.
Petra Jaya has always been a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) stronghold since it was first contested in the 1990 General Election.
Fadillah succeeded his predecessor in retaining the seat in the 2004 General Election and defended it for four consecutive terms.
In the 2018 General Election, Fadillah defended the seat in a three-cornered fight against Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Hamdan Sani of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and won with a 15,017-vote majority.
The GPS coalition comprises four component parties: PBB, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
At the same time, TYT Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, graced the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2022 dinner.
Amongst those present were Sarawak Premier’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang; Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar; Caretaker Senior Minister of Works, GPS Chief Whip and the programme’s organising chairman Fadillah and wife Datin Sri Ruziah Mohd Tahir; as well as Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang. — DayakDaily
