KUCHING, Oct 29: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has raked in RM7 billion in revenue since he took the helm of the Sarawak government three years ago.

The State’s top leader said this achievement was possible after he imposed the State Sales Tax (SST) on petroleum products.

“I (imposed) tax on our oil and gas, which is why I am able to (lower the land) premium (rate to RM2,500) with the new (housing) scheme and then we give back to the people,” he said when officiating a presentation ceremony of land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code to 83 Semariang constituents today.

Abang Johari further said Malaysia has made history with a record number of three prime ministers within three years due to the political power struggle at the Federal level.

“In Sarawak however, after I took over from the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, my Cabinet and I have carried out our duties and it has been smooth sailing because we have good intentions.

“I have always reminded (my colleagues) that our responsibility as leaders are heavy. When we have finally enter the grave pit, we (Muslims) will be asked (by the angels) of our deeds. At least I can say that I have helped build homes (for the people),” he said.

He also called on all parties to continue their responsibilities and duties to develop the State and not be divided. — DayakDaily
