KUCHING, March 31: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announces that Sarawak is now moving into the endemic phase of Covid-19 and is reopening its borders starting tomorrow, April 1, 2022.

In a press statement today, he said to date, 89.19 per cent of those eligible for Covid-19 vaccine booster doses have gotten them, and the State government continues to appeal to those who are eligible and yet to be vaccinated to come forward to receive their booster doses.

ā€œWe are gradually moving towards near normal life. This will revitalise our economy and allow our children to go back to school, for workplaces to operate at optimum capacities, for families to reunite and for communities to socialise,ā€ said Abang Johari.

He pointed out that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has discussed on-the-ground preparedness and risk assessment with related ministries and agencies in view of guidelines for the reopening of Sarawak’s borders.

The procedures to enter Sarawak have since been published.

ā€œOver the past two years, we have fought the battle against Covid-19. Together we faced the challenges with overwhelming trust and support from the people.

ā€œOn behalf of the Sarawak government, I would like to record my appreciation to all Sarawakians for their resilience, patience and discipline in complying with all the SOPs (standard operating procedures) and initiatives of the government in battling Covid-19.

ā€œWithout your support and contributions, it will be an onerous task for us to move towards the endemic phase,ā€ said Abang Johari.

He noted that since March 2022, there has been a decreasing trend in new Covid-19 cases reported daily.

ā€œWe believe the high vaccination rate within the population of Sarawak has contributed towards the declining trend and severity of Covid-19 cases.

ā€œI must put on record my sincere appreciation for the contribution and the positive attitude of Sarawakians towards the Covid-19 vaccination programme,ā€ said Abang Johari.

He urged Sarawakians to continue to be vigilant and follow health protocols, as well as keep themselves up to date with current health and travel guidelines which may be updated from time to time. ā€” DayakDaily
