MIRI, Aug 26:  So long as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) retains the majority in the government, the sanctity of the state administrative structures which have been in existence and recognised since the Brooke and colonial era will be protected from any outside intervention, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He cited how the 22-month Pakatan Harapan government had attempted to intervene in Sarawak’s administration via Village Community Management Councils (MPKK) despite much resistance.

“They must bear in mind, that our administration structures are far different from what they have in Semenanjung,” he pointed out.

He was speaking at the handing over ceremony of land titles under Section 18 to 14 villages from Sungai Ukat, Bario.

Abang Johari also presented appointment letters to 123 community leaders from 10 districts under Miri division.

“This is our commitment (GPS) to defending our local administration’s rights,” he said.

He said, when the previous PH federal government collapsed , the Istana Negara had called him asking for GPS’ decision , which played a crucial role to determine Malaysia’s next prime minister.

“That showed how we (Sarawak) placed a crucial role in Malaysia,” he said.—DayakDaily
