Abang Jo joins Army chief, East Field Command chief to present ranks to officers

KUCHING, April 18: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined Army chief General Tan Sri Dato Seri Zamrose Mohd Zain and East Field Command chief Lt-Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad to present ranks to army officers.

The presentation was held at the Commander Rank Application Ceremony for the 510 Regiment Territorial Army and Sarawak Wataniah Army Support Committee (Jakpaw) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

The officers who were given ranks were approved by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong through the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council.


At the event, Deputy State Secretary (Socio-Economic Transformation) Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki was presented the brigade general rank, remaining as a commander in the 510 Regiment.

Those awarded with honorary major ranks were Sarawak Land and Survey director Datu Abdullah Julaihi, Sarawak Baitulmal Fund general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie and Sarawak Multimedia Authority general manager Dr Zaidi Razak.

The Malaysian Army has taken the initiative to establish Jakpaw in each State to encourage the people to join the Federal Reserve Force (ASP) which plays an important role in helping the Permanent Force defend the country in times of emergency or war as well as in internal security operations.

Jakpaw, which is a committee at the State level, aims to plan all types of assistance to ASPs such as common use camps and promoting Wataniah army to the community.

The patron of Jakpaw in each State is the Menteri Besar, Chief Minister or Premier, while the position of chairman is the state secretary. – DayakDaily
