KUCHING, Apr 23: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg calls on all Sarawakians not to congregate but continue to obey the movement control order (MCO) during Ramadan and Gawai Dayak.
“I sincerely hope that every segment of society continues to obey MCO in view of the relatively high number of casualties for Sarawak as efforts are being made by various parties to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in Sarawak.
“One of the measures which must be adhered to is that there should be no gathering as long as the situation does not permit while at the same time practice good self-discipline to prevent the spread of the pandemic,” said Abang Johari in a press statement today.
Abang Johari also calls on those who are in contact with Covid-19 positive patients to come forth and be tested at the screening centres nearest to them.
He stated that such strict measure is needed as the number of casualties succumbing to Covid-19 in Sarawak is still high.
“On behalf of the Sarawak government, I am taking this opportunity to wish all Muslims in the state well in observing their Ramadan fasting. I also wish to send my well wishes to the Dayak community who will be celebrating their Gawai Dayak festival soon,” he said.
He stressed that the current situation does not allow the people to fast or celebrate Gawai celebrations as they would normally do.
“So, I hope that we all persevere in this challenging time in facing the restrictions under MCO to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he added. — DayakDaily
