Abandoned workers’ quarters razed in Sama Jaya fire, no casualties reported

KUCHING, June 2: An abandoned workers’ quarters at Sama Jaya here was completely destroyed in a fire earlier this morning, with no injuries or casualties reported.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the emergency call was received at 11.09am, prompting the deployment of eight firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle.

“The team arrived at the scene within two minutes. The fire involved a long-abandoned workers’ quarters located in a bushy area,” said the department’s Operations Centre spokesperson in a statement today, as reported by TVS.

Operations Commander PBK I (TBK I) Tahir Tuah reported that the fire was brought under control by 11.25am, with firefighters also carrying out overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining hotspots. — DayakDaily
