KUCHING, Mar 1: The spirit of Ramadan and togetherness—along with a touch from home—filled the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Saturday (Feb 28) as Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended the Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2026 gathering.
Arriving at about 7pm with his daughter, Puan Dayang Norjihan, the Premier was warmly welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and his wife, Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, alongside ministers, senior government officials, and distinguished guests.
According to his official Facebook page, the Premier also received the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, upon their arrival.
The evening began with Yayasan Sarawak presenting tokens of appreciation to honoured guests, followed by a heartfelt recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
As the Maghrib call to prayer resonated through the hall, attendees broke their fast together in a warm atmosphere of gratitude and camaraderie before performing the Maghrib prayer in congregation.
Highlighting the event’s caring spirit, 40 Sarawakian students pursuing their studies in Peninsular Malaysia received cash contributions under a welfare initiative—a meaningful reminder that Sarawakians away from home remain close to the hearts of their leaders.
The programme continued with the Isyak prayer and concluded with congregational Tarawih prayers, drawing the evening to a reflective close and embracing the spiritual essence of Ramadan. — DayakDaily
