KUCHING, Feb 29: The implementation of a Solar+Hydrogen System project to supply power to the community in Long Bedian, Miri will be the first of its kind in the country, says Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau.

In a statement today, Dennis said the matter was discussed together with the Federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Sarawak Energy Berhad, SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and H2 Energy during a visit to the site of the Long Bedian Hybrid Station recently.

“The proposed project is the first of its kind in Malaysia, and it resonates well and is in line with our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s direction of promoting green hydrogen.

“It also underscores the government’s focus on attending to the needs of rural communities such as villages, health clinic, schools, and telecommunications,” said Dennis on the proposal.

Dennis said the project was proposed following the success of the Solar+Hydrogen pilot project at Long Loyang Clinic in Ulu Tinjar which is implemented by H2 Energy based on validated data from the H2E system (H2E1) at Long Loyang Clinic.

According to him, the H2E1 that has been in operation 24/7 uninterrupted since it was commissioned in Dec 2021 and has proved that the critical energy needs of the off-grid rural clinic could be effectively met.

“The proposed project of a large-scale green hydrogen system in Long Bedian Sub-District will allow all the off-grid facilities in Sarawak including the villages, timber logging camps, and palm oil estates to be powered 24/7 with Solar+Hydrogen System thus improving the living standards and well-being of the entire rural community,” he added. — DayakDaily
