KUCHING, April 1: Five people have been hospitalised and 25 sustained injuries following a gas pipeline fire at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, in Subang Jaya this morning.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), a report from the Smart Selangor Operation Centre (SSOC) stated that the fire had spread to several homes in the nearby Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, though the exact number of affected properties is still unknown.

The fire broke out earlier this morning following a leak in a Petronas gas pipeline, igniting a 500m stretch of pipeline.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said that PETRONAS has shut off the pipeline valve, but it remains unclear how far upstream the closure is.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed that he had received a written report from Selangor Bomba about the incident.

“We will investigate what actually happened. I have given instructions to the fire and rescue department,” he told FMT.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS said the affected pipeline has been isolated and relevant stakeholders have been informed.

“Three surrounding PETRONAS stations—Putra Heights, KM2 LDP, and Putra Bestari—are not affected but have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure,” it said in a statement. — DayakDaily
