MIRI, Nov 7: Incumbent performance, public feedback and age will be among the factors considered by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in deciding whether to retain existing representatives or introduce new faces in the three State constituencies under Baram.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the growing number of younger people would also have to be taken into consideration when assessing potential candidates.

“Usually, we will look not only at performance but also feedback. And because of the increasing number of young people, we have to take that into consideration in terms of age,” he said when responding to a question whether incumbents in Marudi, Telang Usan and Mulu would be retained or replaced by new faces in the upcoming 13th Sarawak Election.

Abang Johari also jokingly acknowledged his own age, saying: “Even I am getting old. That is why I indicated that earlier.”

He was speaking to reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the FORUM Cultural Centre here, today. An audio recording of the doorstep interview was later shared with DayakDaily.

The three seats were previously represented by Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (PDP) in Marudi, Dato Dennis Ngau (PBB) in Telang Usan and Datuk Gerawat Gala (PBB) in Mulu, all of whom are incumbents ahead of the 13th Sarawak Election. — DayakDaily
