According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the emergency call was received at 3.02am, prompting personnel from the Sri Aman Station to rush to the scene.

The fire completely destroyed the house, measuring about 30 by 30 square feet.

Two occupants were rescued by members of the public before the arrival of firefighters. One adult woman suffered burns over her entire body, while a 65-year-old man sustained burns covering about 80 per cent of his body.

Both victims were later transported by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit to Sri Aman Hospital for further treatment.

Three other victims, aged 13, 15 and 40, also suffered burns, mainly on their legs, and were taken to hospital by members of the public.

The remains of the boy were later handed over to police for further action.

Four vehicles were also affected in the blaze, including a Toyota Vios and a Perodua Axia which were each about 30 per cent burnt, while a motorcycle was damaged by about 50 per cent. A Perodua Bezza parked nearby was not affected.

Firefighters carried out suppression operations using an offensive technique, deploying a 200-foot hose line with two nozzles along with an initial attack hose to extinguish the flames, followed by overhaul works to ensure the fire was completely put out.

The operation ended at about 5.35am. Police, medical personnel from the Health Ministry, Civil Defence Force (APM), Sarawak Energy and PBS Kampung Hilir personnel were also present at the scene.— DayakDaily
