SARATOK, Aug 21: A 16-door Rh Jantun longhouse near Jalan Krian was razed by fire on Wednesday (Aug 20), leaving 86 residents homeless.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Saratok received a distress call at 1.35pm and immediately dispatched a team to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-storey semi-permanent structure already engulfed in flames.
The blaze caused about 80 per cent damage to the longhouse, but all 86 occupants managed to escape unharmed. No injuries or casualties were reported.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control using water from fire engines and a nearby hydrant.
The operation also involved personnel from the Royal Malaysian Police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Sarawak Welfare Department, Saratok District Office, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), and the Ministry of Health, who provided assistance to the affected residents. — DayakDaily
