KUCHING, April 1: A temporary field hospital with 86 beds will be set up to overcome the issue of bed congestion at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Federal Deputy Minister of Health, Lukanisman Awang Sauni, said a tender process would be done soon.
“With a huge Kuching City population, the Health Ministry (MOH) would try its best to expedite the development of government facilities, including the completion of several more clinic facilities in Kuching, ” he said.
Lukanisaman, who is MP for Sabuti, said this during his first official working visit to SGH today.
He said that the purpose of his visit was to look into issues and problems encountered by SGH staff.
Meanwhile, Lukanisman said MOH has successfully set up temporary field hospitals in Miri and Sibu.
He said SGH also needs to expand, and there is a master plan by the ministry on such matters, but he cannot reveal it at the moment.
Lukanisman also said that during his visit, MOH discussed the issue of the shortage of medical officers at SGH.
“During the discussion with SGH, I shared the ministry’s policy and the direction we’re heading towards at the moment,” he said. — DayakDaily
