85-year-old man found safe after going missing in Sri Aman

SRI AMAN, Aug 20: An 85-year-old man who was reported missing from his home in Spatak Undop here was found safe about 500 metres from his residence this morning.

The man, with high blood pressure and hearing difficulties, was found by villagers at around 8am, following a search and rescue (SAR) operation involving the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), police and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).

According to Bomba Sarawak Operations Control Centre, the man’s son discovered that his father was missing after returning home at about 6.30am yesterday (Aug 19) to pick him up.

The son searched the surrounding area and sought help from neighbours but could not locate his father before subsequently lodging a police report.

A nine-member team from Bomba Sri Aman proceeded to the area at 7.45am today using a utility vehicle.

The operation team was informed at about 8am that villagers had located the elderly man approximately 500 metres from his home.

Led by Sgt Abg Ridzuan, the team went to the location and found the man conscious but weak. He was carried to his home using a stretcher.

He was later taken to Sri Aman Hospital II by an APM ambulance for further treatment.

The SAR operation was officially called off by police at 9am. — DayakDaily
