KUCHING, April 23: The installation of 840 close circuit cameras (CCTVs) across 210 locations in the Kuching and Kota Samarahan divisions will begin in May and is expected to be completed in 27 months.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the contract for this project has been awarded and the contractor would commence work as soon as possible.

In areas under MBKS’ jurisdiction alone, he said 80 sites were identified to be equipped with 320 CCTVs with real-time footage fed to the Sarawak Integrated Operations Centre (SIOC).

“Similarly, DBKU (Kuching North City Commission) will also have 80 sites and 320 cameras in the plan.

“All in all, including areas under MPKS (Kota Samarahan Municipal Council) and MPP (Padawan Municipal Council), there are 210 sites and 840 cameras, along with 210 panic buttons,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live today.
