KUCHING, Dec 12: An 81-year-old man who had hypertension and stroke and required assistance in his daily living was the sole Covid-19 death reported in Sarawak today.
According to a Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) report today, the man from Limbang succumbed to Covid-19 on Dec 10.
This brings the death toll due to the coronavirus in Sarawak to 1,610.
Meanwhile, there were 54 new Covid-19 cases registered in Sarawak, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the State to 251,696.
Three out of the 54 new cases were critical (in Category 3,4 or 5) while the remaining 51 cases were in Categories 1 and 2.
Breaking it down, two intubated patients were in Category 5, there were no new patients in Category 4, and there was one new patient with pneumonia in Category 3.
There were also 25 Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms in Category 2 and 26 asymptomatic patients in Category 1.
By district, Kuching continued to see the highest gains in new infections, recording 30 cases and was the sole district with a double-digit case count today.
Sibu ranked second with seven new cases followed by Bintulu with five cases, Miri (4) and Serian (2).
Districts reporting one new case each were Samarahan, Tatau, Limbang, Bukit Mabong, Beluru and Julau.
Areas with zero new Covid-19 cases were Kapit, Pakan, Mukah, Dalat, Lawas, Sarikei, Lundu, Daro, Marudi, Bau, Subis, Kanowit, Betong, Pusa, Sri Aman, Asajaya, Meradong, Sebauh, Lubok Antu, Selangau, Kabong, Simunjan, Tanjung Manis, Matu, Belaga, Telang Usan, Saratok, Song and Tebedu. — DayakDaily
