KUCHING, Dec 12: Being a mayor who gets to feel the pulse of the people can only be plus points, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

Also, as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Padungan in the coming polls, he said if he were to be elected as a representative, his double identity could only be for the better of the people.

“Things can be done more effectively if I were to become mayor and YB (assemblyman) at the same time.

“Meaning that I will not only be following the policies, but I will be involved in the process of making those policies. I think that’s what the people want, is it not?” he said.

Hitting back at claims about him biting off more than he could chew, Wee said the same referring to Chong, who is also Stampin MP.

“As an MP for Stampin, he’ll be covering three DUN areas (State constituencies), namely Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, and Batu Kitang.

“Now, he’s coming to Padungan. So, four DUN areas to cover. Don’t you think he’ll be busier than a mayor?” he questioned.

For himself, on the other hand, Wee said only a few more streets in Padungan constituency would be added onto his plate on top of his responsibility as mayor of Kuching South.

He added that serving the people is not a one-person job.

Good teamwork is needed instead, and the team leader must be someone who can make wise decisions, said Wee.

“So, I’m here requesting the voters (of Padungan) to please give me a chance of five years to serve you all better.

“I want to prove to you that I can serve you. I want to prove that we can work together to power up the Padungan constituency.

“If I do not perform, I will not wait for you to vote me out. Instead, I will step down myself, and that is my promise to you,” he said in a press conference at Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) headquarters here today.

Among others also present were SUPP operations director Datuk Matthew Chen, GPS candidates Milton Foo Tiang Wee for Pending, Sih Hua Tong for Batu Lintang, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian for Batu Kawah, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin for Kota Sentosa, and Lo Khere Chiang for Batu Kitang. ā€” DayakDaily
