80yo woman accidentally steps on accelerator, drives into 10 cars at 3rd Mile Bazaar carpark

KUCHING, Aug 1: A massive accident occurred in the carpark behind the 3rd Mile Bazaar after an 80-year-old woman driving a BMW is believed to have accidentally stepped on the accelerator and drove into 10 cars, causing varying degrees of damage this morning.

Padawan Police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz confirmed that the accident took place at about 9.54am when the woman was in the process of parking her car.

In a video of the aftermath of the accident, the luxury car, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), could be seen at the back entrance and pavement steps of a shop.

A passenger, an elderly man, was seen exiting from the car with a pale face, appearing shaken and stating he had difficulty breathing.

It was understood that the woman driver was unharmed, but severely frightened by the accident.

Many of the cars sustained extensive damage, with the initial impact causing cars to ram into other objects. Some cars had their bumpers torn off, and others had their bonnets crushed. Another Proton car hit a pole.
