KUCHING, June 20: Eight men were fined RM1,000 each in default three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for involvement in illegal cockfighting.
The 8 accused, aged between 35 and 61, pleaded guilty to the charge slapped on them. They were caught indulging in the illegal activity at Taman Villa Permai in Siburan at about 4.25pm on June 1 this year.
They were charged under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance and punishable under Section 73(1) of the same Ordinance, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or an imprisonment term not exceeding 6 months or both, if convicted.
DPP Muhammad Hafiz Musa and prosecuting officer Merelyne Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
