79yo man’s body found by grandchild 1km from fatal Sungai Batang Oya boat collision

MUKAH, Sept 4: The body of a 79-year-old man who fell into Sungai Batang Oya following a boat crash has been found by his grandchild.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that the victim, identified as Dos Katek from Kampung Klid Dalat, was found floating approximately one kilometre from the crash site near Sungai Klid at around 12.30am today.

Upon receiving the alert from Dalat police headquarters, firefighters from the Mukah Station rushed to the scene.

The body was retrieved and handed over to the police at Lebrasau jetty before being transported to the Dalat Hospital for official certification of death.

Subsequently, the remains were transferred to Mukah Hospital for further procedures. The search and recovery operation concluded at 4am.

The incident occurred on Sept 2 when a speedboat collided with a perahu (boat), causing the elderly man to strike the front of the speedboat and fall into the river. — DayakDaily
