KUCHING, Sept 22: A 77-year-old man who was reported missing after leaving his home in Miri on Sept 14 was found dead on Sunday (Sept 21).
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched within a 50-metre radius from where his vehicle was last seen at Batu Niah.
Within 20 minutes, the victim was found in an area with tall grass along the roadside, already in a decomposed condition.
The remains were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
Based on the chronology of events, on Sept 14, the victim, Chong Nyuk Fan, left his home at Lot 4728 Jalan Maigold 3A Senadin 3 at approximately 10pm, using a white Hilux Vigo.
A relative who lodged the report said the victim left the house without telling anyone. GPS tracking later revealed the vehicle’s journey from Miri to Belaga and finally to Jalan Pan Borneo near the Ngu Niah junction, where it was last detected on Sept 17.
When the family went to the vehicle’s last tracked location, they found it parked by the roadside in Batu Niah. The victim, however, was nowhere to be seen and could not be reached as he did not have a mobile phone.
This led the family to carry out their own search, and when their efforts proved unsuccessful, they lodged a police report on Sunday. — DayakDaily
