MIRI, June 20: The Sri Aman police from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), together with Sarawak NCID, arrested three men, which resulted in the seizure of various drugs worth RM47.2 million on June 18, making it the biggest drug bust in Sarawak this year.
According to Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din, the drugs seized weighed 768kg.
He said the three suspects, aged between 28 and 37, were arrested in an operation from 1.30am to 4pm where an entertainment outlet, three premises believed to be used to store the drugs, and an open area within Miri city were raided.
The drugs seized were Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (81.8kg), Ketamine (686.7kg), and Eramin 5 pills (1.15g).
“The drugs seized could be consumed by 2,561,740 drug addicts,” said Mohd Kamarudin.
He added that the syndicate, believed to have been active since February this year, has been using courier services.
“Earlier investigations found that the drugs seized were brought in from Brazil and Taiwan,” he said.
Also seized were a car (RM80,000), cash (RM2,800), and jewellery (RM1,957)—bringing the total seizure to RM47,292,389.
The three suspects have also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and two have previous drug- and criminal-related offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, during the raid on the entertainment outlet, 117 individuals comprising 58 men and 59 women, were arrested, and out of the total, 57 tested positive for drugs.
