KUCHING, Aug 9: Sarawak has completed Covid-19 vaccinations for 75.9 per cent of its eligible population and while 88.2 per cent have received their first vaccination dose as of yesterday.
Sarawak Health Director Dato Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed in a statement today pointed out this is the result of the efforts and cooperation of various parties, namely Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) Sarawak, health workers and volunteers as well as the public.
“The Sarawak Health Department is requesting people who are eligible and have not yet received the Covid-19 immunisation, which is 11.8 per cent of the population in Sarawak, to get the immunisation and ensure that all family members and acquaintances also get the Covid-19 immunisation immediately.
“This action can not only prevent oneself from getting a serious illness but also protect those who are not eligible to receive immunisation because they are under 18-years-old or have contraindications to Covid-19 immunization,” said Dr Mohamed Sapian.
He cautioned Sarawakians who had completed their Covid-19 immunisation to continue to wear face masks and keep physical distancing and to remain in compliance with the established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Anyone who experiences symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing or experiencing lethargy, body aches, diarrhea and vomiting without an identifiable cause, immediately seek screening and treatment at the nearest health facility even if the symptoms are mild and not severe.”
Apart from calling on all Sarawakians to stay home if there are no important matters, he also urged them not to be complacent and to remain vigilant.
“Practise the health recommendations and advice given at all times as a new normal in daily life,” said Dr Mohamed Sapian. — DayakDaily
