SRI AMAN, Feb 22: A 73-year-old elderly lady passed away after she was hit by a car while crossing the road at Kilometre 49 Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei yesterday (Feb 21).
Sri Aman’s Chief District Police, Deputy Supt Police (DSP) Mathew Manggie stated the accident was reported to have taken place around 11.20am.
According to him, the victim was said to be crossing from the shoulder to the middle of the road during the incident.
“A car that was shifting into the right lane travelling from Kuching to Miri collided with the victim who was said to have suddenly crossed the road.
“The victim sustained a head injury after being thrown onto the road following the impact of the crash,” said Mathew in a statement yesterday (Feb 21).
The driver took the victim using his car to Skrang Health Clinic which is located approximately five kilometres away from the accident.
“Upon arrival at the clinic, the victim was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty,” Mathew added.
The remains of the deceased were later transported to Sri Aman Hospital for an autopsy.
A further investigation of the case is conducted under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. — DayakDaily
