KUCHING, Nov 30: A 73-year-old man was believed to have been killed in a fight triggered by jealousy at Kampung Atas, Singai, in Bau on Saturday (Nov 29).
According to the Bau district police chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, police received a report of the incident at 11.39pm, involving three senior citizens.
“The victim, a carpenter from Kampung Daun, Singai, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries to his head and several parts of his body.
“Initial investigation found that the victim had gone to the home of a 63-year-old woman who was believed to be in a relationship with him, and accused her of being unfaithful, which led to an argument,” he said in a statement.
He said the victim then punched the woman in the face before she ran out of the house.
“The woman then took a pole in front of the gate and struck the victim’s arm. At the time, another man, also aged 63 and a retired soldier, arrived to break up the fight by kicking the victim and telling the woman to stop after seeing the victim bleeding and collapsing to the ground,” he added.
He said a five-foot wooden pole was found near the victim’s body during the scene inspection.
Both suspects later surrendered themselves at the Bau police station at about 8.20am today and have been detained for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
