KUCHING, July 22: The ‘722 Walk’ must not be reduced to a mere ritual or celebration, but must remain a call to action for all Sarawakians to stay united, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He emphasised that this year’s walk, jointly organised by MBKS, Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), demonstrated what could be achieved when communities and local authorities set aside differences and work together.

“This idea of a united 722 Walk was something I envisioned from the beginning. All three councils walking side by side as ‘Anak Sarawak’, united in purpose and spirit. Today, we have made that vision a reality,” he said during the flag-off ceremony at MBKS Square here today.

He urged Sarawakians to continue embracing the spirit of love for the State.

“Let us walk with pride to honour past leaders, strengthen our present, and build a better future.

“We are responsible for igniting the Sarawak spirit in our children and grandchildren. So let us work together not just today, but in every decision we make for our beloved Sarawak,” he said.

The four-kilometre walk attracted over 500 participants comprising staff from MBKS, DBKU, and MPP, beginning at MBKS Square and ending at Dataran Pertiwi via the Darul Hana Bridge.
