722 Rally: We will abide by the rules, says S4S

KUCHING, July 16: The Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) movement has assured that its planned 722 Rally to commemorate Sarawak Independence Day will abide the law.

According to a spokesperson, S4S will adhere to police instructions at all time during the rally to be held at Padang Merdeka on July 22.

“We will follow all the requirements and advice from the police to ensure the safety of participants and members of the public,” S4S said in a statement issued following its meeting with Kuching District Police Chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani here, today.


Police advised S4S not to involve children and people with disabilities in the rally. Participants have also been warned not to carry dangerous weapons to the event.

“Among other rules, we were also told to advise participants to not carry out seditious chanting or display unapproved (sensitive) banners during the parade,” the spokesperson continued.

Participants, or members of the public who wants to witness the rally, are advised to park their vehicles at the Jubilee Ground area.

“Do come as early as 7.30am to avoid congestion at Song Kheng Hai ground, as the progamme will start at 8am. Do come in droves but vehicle sharing to avoid congestion.

“If possible, use public transportation or e-hailing ride such as Grab to Song Kheng Hai field or Padang Merdeka, as areas from Padungan till the venue might experience congestion and crowded with people,” he said.

He added that at 10am, participants will start moving from Song Kheng Hai field to Padang Merdeka, where they will join Sarawak Association for People’s Aspirations (SAPA) for the finale of the programme.

“We have briefed the police on details of our programme. S4S will not be responsible for any incidents beyond our agreement with the police,” he continued. — DayakDaily
