7,200 litres of subsidised diesel worth over RM15,000 confiscated in Miri

KUCHING, May 5: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Miri confiscated 7,200 litres of subsidised diesel with an estimated value of RM15,480.

The enforcement team produced a case on May 3 under the Ops Tiris, which involves the diversion of diesel-subsidised controlled goods.

Following their inspection, KPDN Miri also confiscated five units of blue polyester tanks and one electric pump, totalling the value of seized items to an estimated value of RM18,630.

The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 to identify the individuals or companies involved in the activities or distribution chain of diesel oil, including sources of obtained diesel and distribution by any irresponsible parties.

If convicted, corporations could face fines up to RM2 million for the first offence and RM5 million for subsequent offences, whereas individuals may incur fines up to RM1 million for the first offence along with a maximum imprisonment term of three years or both. For subsequent individual offences, fines could reach up to RM3 million with imprisonment not exceeding five years or both.
