SIBU, Feb 17: A 70-year-old man was fined RM500 in default of seven days’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for his involvement in an investment scan.
The accused, Ng Soon Teck, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 37 (1) of the Sarawak Minor Offence Ordinance 1958. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three months and a fine of RM500.
According to the brief facts which were read before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mohktar, the accused was charged with having in his possession RM30,000 which was money from his victim.
The victim in the case whose identity was not revealed in the hearing brief had on August 22 last year received a call from the accused.
The accused offered the victim an opportunity to invest in an investment scheme “By Bit” which promised large returns.
As the victim was interested, he made six bank transfers amounting to RM30,000 to the accused’s account.
The victim filed a police report after he did not receive what was promised by the accused. — DayakDaily
