KUCHING, June 3: Some 70 Muay Thai fighters from Kuching and Petra Jaya will be vying for the YB Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman Challenge Trophy and N6 Youth Trophy at the two-day NSIX Muaythai Challenge 2022 (NSIXMC 22) starting tomorrow (June 4).
Organised by Sarawak Muaythai Association in collaboration with N6 Tupong Service Centre and other relevant agencies, the competition will take place at the Akmal multipurpose hall of Royal Malaysian Customs Training Academy Sarawak Branch, Jalan Matang here.
The fighters will compete in eight categories with focus matches in Youth Category (50-51kg) S4 (18 years and above) and the Junior Category (38-42kg) S4 (13 years and below) to vie for the YB Fazz Challenge Trophy.
There will also be fights to decide the winners of the N6 Tupong Petrajaya Youth Trophy (63.5-67kg) S4 (18 years and above), N6 Tupong Petrajaya Youth Trophy (963.5067kg) S4 (18 years and below) and N6 Tupong Petrajaya Youth Trophy (25-27kg) S4 (12 years old).
It includes two main matches namely the Borneo Invitation Superfight (7 Regy/Bout) and Nsix Muaythai Amateur Superfight (17 Regu/Bout).
To intensify the challenge, the organiser has also introduced a special match to vie for the YB Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof Trophy.
Fazzrudin handed over the Challenge Trophy to tournament director Azmanni Mohamed in a brief ceremony held at Tupong Service Centre today.
“The purpose of organising this tournament is to introduce and develop Muaythai sports in Sarawak, apart from encouraging teenagers to get active in sports so they would stay away from unhealthy activities.
“In addition, it would also facilitate in achieving the goal to enhance awareness and understanding of Muay Thai sports among the communities.
“This activity can be a catalyst for bigger tournaments in the future on the national level,” he added. — DayakDaily
