SIBU, Dec 16: Selangau MP Baru Bian gave his assurance to the fire victims of Rumah Julau in Ulu Pasai Siong that he would find ways to assist them.
Baru, who is also Works Minister, had been down to the fire site where 10 out of the 12-door longhouse had been destroyed in a fire on Saturday (Dec 14), leaving about 70 people homeless. He donated RM12,000 to the victims.
“I will try my best to find other ways to help the victims,” he said while on the way to his constituency on Sunday evening (Dec 15) for a pre-Christmas gathering.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the department received a distress call at 10.52am on Saturday, immediately despatching 16 firefighters to the scene.
According to Bomba, by the time they reached there, 10 of the 12 doors were already badly burnt.
“We could only help save the remaining two doors of the longhouse,” the statement said. —DayakDaily
