70 Covid-19 cases traced to Kuching construction workers’ quarters, 3 new clusters declared in Sarawak

KUCHING, Sept 21: A Covid-19 cluster involving 70 confirmed cases has been identified at a workers’ quarters of a construction company at Jalan P Ramlee here, triggering one of three new clusters announced in Sarawak today. 

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak reported that the Jalan P Ramlee Cluster is a workplace cluster involving the residents of the workers’ quarters.

A total of 101 individuals have been screened, whereby 31 have tested negative and no lab test results are pending.

All positive cases have been referred to either Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), the Kuching Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) or Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in Kuching District.

The other two new clusters declared were in Sibu with one linked to a children’s home located at Lorong Kemuyang Timur with 16 positive cases, and another linked to a rehabilitation centre located at Batu 10, Jalan Oya with 36 positive cases. 

SDMC reported that the Pusat Kemuyang Timur Cluster involved the students and residents of the children’s home.

A total of 85 individuals have been screened, whereby 69 are still awaiting lab test results. 

As for the Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster, it involved the residents and visitors of the rehabilitation centre.

Of the 36 positive cases so far, six were reported today.

A total of 82 individuals have been screened, whereby 46 have tested negative with no lab test results pending. 

All positive cases from these two institution-related clusters have been referred to either Sibu Hospital, PKRC Sibu or CAC Sibu District. 

SDMC today also announced the end of the Kampung Senari Cluster in Kuching, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days. 

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 140, out of which 11 clusters reported an increase in infections contributing 126 cases to today’s overall case count of 3,724. 

They are the Bungey 2 Cluster which added 46 more cases; Long Urun Cluster (37 cases); Pusat Kemuyang Timur Cluster (16 cases); Industri Jalan Semeba Cluster (8 cases); Kampung Segedup Cluster and new Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster (6 cases each); Jalan Usaha Jaya Dua Cluster (3 cases); while Annah Rais Cluster, Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya Cluster, Kampung Dangak Cluster and Sungai Pana Cluster picked up one case each. — DayakDaily
