7 UNIMAS scholars recognised among world’s most influential scientists

Seven UNIMAS lecturers gained international recognition among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 by Stanford University and Elsevier.

KUCHING, Sept 25: Seven lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) have earned international recognition after being named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 by Stanford University and Elsevier.

Among the list are Professor Dr Jedediah Brodie from Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation, Associate Professor Dr Ahmad Kueh Beng Hong from Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Dr Md Rezaur Rahman from Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Dr Ivy Tan Ai Wei from Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Indraneil Das from Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation; Dr Yiin Chung Loong from Faculty of Engineering; and Professor Dr Balbir Singh from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists list by Stanford University and Elsevier honours the world’s most influential researchers, measured by the global impact and reach of their work through Scopus data.

UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hj Ahmad Hata bin Rasi states that this achievement is part of the university’s vision to provide educators of international standing.

“We want UNIMAS graduates to not only possess knowledge but also have extensive research experience so they can contribute to society,” he said in a statement today.

He stressed that the achievement highlights UNIMAS’ commitment to impactful research and innovation while expressing hoped that more lecturers will follow suit and gain similar recognition on the world stage.

The evaluation considers factors such as total citations, h-index and high-impact research. Since 2019, this list has been a benchmark for recognising the world’s most influential scientists including their contributions and standing in the international scientific community.

The recognition proves the quality and expertise of UNIMAS academics are on par with leading researchers worldwide. — DayakDaily
