KUCHING, April 7: Seven individuals, consisting of six men and one woman, sustained severe injuries after their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) veered off the Pan-Borneo Highway in Batu Niah on Friday afternoon, plunging into a ravine.
In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) mentioned that they received an alert about the incident at approximately 5.20pm. Firefighters from the Batu Niah fire station were immediately sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire brigade found that the victims had already been pulled out from the vehicle by members of the public.
“Two of the victims were transported to Miri Hospital by members of the public, while another victim was taken to Miri Hospital by the victim’s relative,” read the statement.
After assessing the situation, the fire brigade determined that there were no victims trapped and, therefore, did not need to carry out a victim extraction operation.
The firefighters treated the remaining victims early and relocated them to a secure location, ensuring their safety until the arrival of medical assistance.
According to Bomba, once the remaining victims were transported to the Ladang 3 Health Clinic and Batu Niah Health Clinic, the firefighters carried out a road flushing as part of their operation’s conclusion. — DayakDaily
