MIRI, March 4: Seven men, aged between 33 and 71 years, were arrested when police raided an illegal cockfighting den in Niah yesterday.
Seized in the 4pm operation mounted by Miri CID officers were two live and two dead roosters, a whiteboard and a weighing tool.
The cockfighting site was near the junction of an oil palm plantation, and when the suspects realised the presence of the police, they all tried to escape, but to no avail. They were all rounded up.
All the suspects and seized exhibits were later taken to Miri Central police station (CPS) to facilitate investigation into the case under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty to Animals (Prevention) Ordinance 1962. — DayakDaily
