KUCHING, Nov 5: A total of 679 Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) have been placed on standby across Sarawak as part of the State’s preparedness measures for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), said Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) report, she said the preparations also include the setting up forward supply bases, stockpiling dry food and providing logistical support to ensure aid can be dispatched promptly, particularly to areas at risk of being cut off.

“I wish to emphasise that we have already made preparations to face this Northeast Monsoon (MTL). Our main focus is on establishing temporary relief centres.

“This effort requires cooperation not only from the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, but also approval from the Disaster Management Committee,” she said, when met by the media following the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Exchange Ceremony between SeDidik Sarawak and OCI Terrasus Sdn Bhd, alongside the Soft Launch of Children’s and Teachers’ Storybooks published by SeDidik today.

Fatimah added that preparations also cover the coordination of personnel, communication systems, boats and vehicles to facilitate evacuation operations and the distribution of assistance.

She stressed that forward supply bases are crucial in ensuring essential supplies, particularly dry food, are pre-positioned at strategic locations to support communities that may become isolated during disasters.

Disaster relief efforts, she said, are coordinated through an integrated, multi-agency approach involving Disaster Management Committees at both state and divisional levels. – DayakDaily
