665 ‘ultra-men’ to showcase their endurance come March 2-3

KUCHING, Feb 26: Kuching Ultra 2019, now into its 3rd edition, has attracted 665 participants from 17 countries.

Organised by Grit Event Management, this annual event is the state’s largest ultra marathon, and it will take place from March 2-3.

Ultra marathon is a running event that is longer than the traditional marathon distance of 42.195km (26.2 miles). There are 4 categories, with 50km, 70km and 100km being the ‘ultra’ distances. The 30km category is for those who want a taste of an ultra marathon.


Participation has grown significantly over the years. The first edition in 2017 recorded 168 runners from four countries, and the second one last year brought in 320 participants from eight countries.

Grid Event Management, in a statement, said the run would start from M Hotel and would pass through parts of the city, Petra Jaya, and Santubong.

Registered participants are reminded to collect their race packs on March 1 (11am to 6pm) and March 2 (10am to 1pm) at M Hotel. There will be a mandatory kit check during the race pack collection before runners can claim their race packs.
