KUCHING, July 19: The 60-year-old man who went missing after he fell into Batang Oya, Kampung Tanam Seberang, in Dalat on Saturday (July 18) was found dead on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), this followed a call received from a member of the public at 9.15am who informed that the body of Henry Stamslaus Secon was found about 50m upstream from where he was believed to had fallen into the river.
The victim’s body was brought to the jetty, whose identify was confirmed by family members, before being handed over to the police and transported to Mukah Hospital.
The operation concluded at 11am. Also present at the scene was Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
According to Bomba, a call on the missing person was received at 3.50pm on Saturday, and firefighters from the Mukah station were deployed.
It was noted that at around 1.30pm, the caller reported seeing a boat collide with a jetty near a house before capsizing.
Upon checking, it was found that the victim was no longer in the boat and was believed to have fallen into the river. — DayakDaily
