KUCHING, July 8: A total of 600 new housing units are set to be built on 300 acres of land at Muara Tabuan for the folks of Kampung Tabuan Melayu, says Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
Dr Hazland said the earthworks is almost 99 per cent completed, and the project is to commence soon.
He revealed that the application for the new housing project for Tabuan Melayu was approved successfully in 2015 during the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s time.
“Priority is given to those who do not have land and whose houses were built on stilts above the water along the riverbank and those from Kampung Cemerlang.
“From Kampung Cemerlang alone, there are more than 600 families, and those who applied from Kampung Tabuan Melayu number more than 1,400 applicants,” he said at the launching of a ‘Gotong Royong Bersama Komuniti Kampung Tabuan Melayu’ organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in conjunction with ‘Bulan Kebersihan Bandaraya Kuching Julai 2023’.
Dr Hazland, who is also Demak Laut assemblyman, went on to say that the remainder of the applicants will be placed in the Tanjung Bako area, and the building of new bridges connected to Sejingkat from the area is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
“This is the design and the new housing structure so that Kampung Tabuan Melayu is not congested and to enable beautification of the village.
“All this would also improved the waste management system and social issues that could happen and spread in this residential area,” he said.
