KUCHING, Nov 19: Six family members to Case 1,043 and 1,044 of the Besi Cluster were tested positive for Covid-19 today.
They were among the eight new Covid-19 cases recorded in Sarawak while the remaining two cases were reported in Miri.
This pushes the total number of infected patients statewide to 1,053.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, informed that with the additional six cases, the cumulative number of cases in the Besi Cluster now stands at 11.
Case 1,048 until 1,053 involved the father, mother, siblings and relatives to Case 1,043 and 1,044. They consisted of one man and five women aged between two to 56 years old.
They were asymptomatic and have no travel history outside the country or visited high-risk areas in the country.
All cases are now isolated and treated in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Contact tracing for other cases is actively being conducted.
For the two cases in Miri, Case 1,046 involved a local university student who returned from Kuala Lumpur.
Upon arrival at Miri Airport on Nov 8, he was immediately quarantined for 14-days at a facility. He was asymptomatic. Contact tracing is currently underway. This case is thus categorised as an imported case.
Case 1,047 involved a local woman who is the sister of Case 987. She was detected through close contact screening. She was ordered to observe home quarantine.
The case is also asymptomatic and has no travel history out of the country or has visited any high-risk areas in the country. Close contact tracing is actively being carried out.
Both cases are now isolated and treated at Miri Hospital.
Meanwhile, there are currently six active clusters in Kuching with Besi Cluster (201 individuals screened, 284 negative and six awaiting test results), Jalan Abell Cluster (15 cases), Baki Cluster (33 cases), Seladah Cluster (9 cases), Greenhill Cluster (91 cases) and Wisma Saberkas Cluster (44 cases).
Kuching remained as a red zone with total 97 local transmission cases recorded within the past 14 days while Miri and Limbang maintained as yellow zones.
There were 16 cases who have recovered and been discharged with 13 from SGH and three from Miri Hospital. Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak have been increased to 962 or 91.36 per cent of total positive cases so far.
A total of 72 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals in the state currently with 63 in SGH including one requiring a ventilator and nine in Miri Hospital.
Sarawak also recorded 21 more persons-under-investigation (PUI) with two cases pending laboratory test results.
There were also 148 more persons-under-surveillance (PUS) registered into identified hotels to undergo quarantine.
As of today, there were a total number of 2,977 individuals undergoing quarantine in 30 hotels throughout the state. — DayakDaily
