KUCHING, Nov 22: The construction of a 6.2-kilometre (km) access road to the south of Kuching International Airport (KIA) is progressing at 82 per cent with the completion date by June 28, 2025.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the project worth RM112.9 million is currently ahead of schedule.
“The project with a substantial portion in Kota Sentosa is not only to lessen the traffic congestions in the surrounding areas but also to provide an alternative route for motorists from different road directions, including Samarahan and Serian divisions.
“This project is significant as it is reflective of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to developing Kota Sentosa,” he said in a statement after attending a site visit and briefing on the work progress by representatives from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) and Reka Ikhtiar Sdn Bhd (contractor) yesterday (Nov 21).
The scope of works under the project are for the construction of a new four-lane two-way road from Stutong T-Junction to Stampin T-Junction to Bukit Berangan T-Junction; a two-lane two-way road from Stampin T-Junction to Sungai Tapang T-Junction; Stampin T-Junction and road crossing to Sungai Tapang T-Junction with D-type road upgrading of Stutong T-Junction; and three reinforced concrete bridges with two-lane two-way crossing Sungai Kuap and Sungai Sangkoh. — DayakDaily
