KUCHING, July 2: Serian has recorded 78 out of the total 440 Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today, with 59 of them being detected through a screening of detainees (OKT) at the Semuja Immigration Depot.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 59 positive cases or 75.64 per cent of overall cases in Serian District involved foreign OKTs placed at the detention centre before they are sent back to their original countries.
It added that the group of OKT were mostly from Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Myanmar.
Of the remaining number of cases today, districts that saw double-digit infections included Kuching (62), Song (59), Sibu (41), Mukah (37), Bintulu (29), Sri Aman (18), Miri (16), Sarikei (13), Saratok (13) and Meradong (11).
The rest were Bau (9), Tatau (8), Matu (8), Subis (7), Kapit (6), Lundu (6), Betong (5), Sebauh (4), Asajaya (2), Kanowit (2), Telang Usan (2), Tebedu (1), Simunjan (1), Lubok Antu (1) and Julau (1).
With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 65,835.
“Out of the 440 patients today, 303 were detected following close contact screenings where 44 of them were symptomatic.
“Another 81 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where four showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
“Additionally, there were 43 cases that were of other screenings from health facilities, and 13 cases from symptomatic screenings in health facilities,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.
Meanwhile, the committee also reported four new deaths from Covid-19 today, with the death toll in Sarawak now at 417.
On the latest update on Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 28 red, two orange, nine yellow zones and one green zone. Daro remains the only green zone in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
