SIBU, Jan 16: A 58-year-old man and a dog were found dead in a drain after a house along Jalan Kok Tiong near Sungai Bidut was completely destroyed by fire last night (Jan 15).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sungai Merah received the emergency call at 7.51pm and promptly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
The victim’s body was discovered about 10 feet from the burned house.
At the time of the incident, the unpermanent structure was unoccupied.
According to Sin Chew Daily Sarawak, the man is believed to have died from electrocution while attempting to save his parents and extinguish the fire.
Firefighters employed defensive techniques using nearby open water sources to control and extinguish the blaze.
The victim’s remains have been handed over to the police for further investigation. — DayakDaily
