581 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak, no fatalities

KUCHING, Aug 8: Sarawak registered 581 new Covid-19 cases and no new deaths according to a daily update from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today.

SDMC said out of the 581 new cases, 269 were close contacts to Covid-19 patients, 109 were from existing Covid-19 clusters, 52 from symptomatic screenings at health facilities and 145 from other screenings at health facilities.


There were also three Import B cases comprising individuals returning from Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, and three import A cases involving two individuals returning from Indonesia and one from Singapore, all whom were asymptomatic.

Kuching reported 263 cases, the highest number of new cases among all districts in Sarawak.

This was followed by Serian which registered 84 new cases, Sri Aman (42), Samarahan (33), Bau (30), Bintulu (22), Sibu (21), Selangau (16), Tatau (14), Miri (12) and Lundu (12).

There were 13 districts which registered single-digit increases in cases.

They include Meradong which reported six new cases, Asajaya (6), Kapit (4), Pusa (3), Lubok Antu (2), Subis (2), Tebedu (2), Beluru (2), Sarikei (1), Simunjan (1), Saratok (1), Kanowit (1) and Telang Usan (1).

The 581 new cases reported in Sarawak today has pushed the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State to 81,328.

On the other hand, 277 Covid-19 patients were reported recovered and discharged, bringing total recoveries to 73,266 people or 90.04 per cent of the overall coronavirus cases in Sarawak.

A total of 7,429 Covid-19 patients are still being treated at various health facilities throughout Sarawak out of which 29 patients are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with 10 patients on ventilators support. — DayakDaily
